Serambi Jazz: Duo Project

DuoProject

Duo Project is a young project created in mid 2012 by two Indonesian jazz musicians who are also best friends: Pianist Ramadhani Syah and guitarist Johanes Radianto. The two created this project initially because of a request from a local Bandung promoter to make a concert with a simple group format. They decided just to play with piano and guitar and called themselves “DUO PROJECT”.

The concert was packed with people and the response was enthusiastic so the two friends decided to continue working together as DUO PROJECT.

Ramadhani Syah Warongan, born in 1980, got his undergraduate degree as a pianist, majoring in Jazz and Performance, from the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen, Netherlands, in 2009. His teachers where musicians like Jasper Soffers, Marc Van Roon, David Berkman, Indra Lesmana, Tjut Nyak, Deviana Daudsjah, Aksan Sjuman, Michael Moore, Elena Malinova, Steve Altenberg, Joris Teee, Ralph Peterson, Alex Sipiagin, Freddie Bryant, Daena DeRose, Kurt Weiss, Brian Lynch, Don Braden and Mark Gross.

During his studies in the Netherlands he was featured on several albums like "Gipsy Nature" by the quartet of Lithuanian saxophonist Kestutis Vaiginis. Dhani is also a member of the Re-Bop Unit, a quintet which was chosen as part of the project "The Artistry of Dick Oatts and Young Jazz Musicians", a coaching programmme for the integration of selected young artists initiated by the Groningen research group Lifelong Learning in Music & the Arts. Currently Dhani works as a lecturer at Universitas Pelita Harapan, Ponpin Music School and Institut Musik Indonesia. Together with Johanes Radianto he is a member of the famous Jongens Quartet, along with fellow musicians Elfa Zulham and Doni Sundjoyo.
